Bruges & Brussels

Bruges & Brussels

We've been traveling a bit the past few weeks.  Two weekends ago we made a foray into Belgium and visited Bruges and Brussels.
Bruges is beautiful. They call it the Venice of the North.  Its defies the saying that anything that is the something of something isn't the anything of anything.

Mary and Dave taking a cruise on the canals of Bruges. A highlight of the trip.

Bruges from above.  It is an entire city little changed in appearance since medieval times.
We really like this horse fountain. It was near the 'Lake of Love,' which was beautiful.  Most of the lake is a park but there is a restaurant on the water in the park but sadly it was undergoing renovation.

After Bruges, Brussels could not compete. We did enjoy the historic square and the Mannekin Pis.

Mary and Dave enjoy the Grand Place, old town square of Brussels

Dave averts his eyes from the mannekin pis. We didn't really understand why it was such a Brussels icon.

  1. Looking forward to seeing you guys in July (so I hear from your parents)! Saw your parents, Mary, at Tara's wedding and had a nice time catching up, also introduced them to Bryan. I can't believe you 2 are quickly approaching your first anniversary...my time flies! You will not believe how big the kids are when you see them. Samuel is potty trained now - whoo hoo! And Sophia is quite the little communicator these days. Fun to read your blog posts, Dave, keep 'em coming! You know, I was thinking...isn't it more like the Denings in Europe? Thanks for giving us a virtual tour, it's fun to follow along every now and then. : )

  2. naomi's post = flashing back to pics taken at your wedding reception with the France backdrop! only wish could be there and see your faces - but if what naomi just wrote is true, oh happy day. july is less than a month away. however, i cannot imagine it being a long visit with lots of time to visit? - esp. if many people want to chat. hoping you do have time to visit. come on and over and stay forever if you'd like :) saw the stars tonight and was remember stargazing days with mar - wonder if you two are seeing different constellations there? hope you both are well. glad you've gotten so many great travel opportunities.

p.s. if mary was a band, what band would she be? Green Day (hehe, get it -the whole color thing - nothing related to the actual music :)
